The official timeline
If your CRM segments, scores or filters customers by NAF code, those codes will move under your feet. This article gives the timeline, how to find a company's future code and what to prepare in your customer file.
The NAF 2025 was approved by decree no. 2025-736 of 31 July 2025. It applies from 1 January 2027, the date on which NAF rev. 2 is repealed. According to the French national statistics institute, the new classification enters the statistical registers during 2026 and is phased into statistical output until the end of 2029.
Throughout 2026 the official company register portal shows each company its future NAF 2025 code, for all its establishments, and lets it request a correction. On 1 January 2027 this future code becomes the official APE code. The code of each establishment changes too, not only that of the head office.
This follows the revision of the European classification: the NAF 2025 must fit within NACE Rev. 2.1, which has applied in the European Union since 1 January 2025 (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/137). Reference page from Service-Public: "À quoi correspond le code APE (code NAF) ?" (in French)
Checked on 15 October 2026 on the official websites.
What changes
The codes of all companies are revised, but not all in the same way. A correspondence published by the statistics institute (the "NAF rev. 2 to NAF 2025" table, January 2026 edition) shows the scale of the change. Depending on the case, a code is renamed, merged with another, or split across several new codes. In the last case the table alone is not enough: the company's real activity decides.
Service-Public gives an example: a hair salon, today 96.02A, moves to 96.21G from 2027. The label and the final letter change, although the trade is the same.
The structure stays familiar: a NAF code is still written with four digits and a letter. To review the format and the levels, see NAF / APE code: meaning and use.
How to find a company's future code
Three routes, depending on whether you mean your own company or your customers':
- For your own company: enter your SIREN on the official company register portal (linked from the Service-Public page). The result shows the "code APE 2025" and its label, and a form lets you request a correction if the code does not reflect your main activity.
- With the official correspondence table: you find the destination code or codes of an old code. It is useful to prepare segmentation rules, but it is not an answer for one given company.
- For a whole file: applying the table to each row gives a probable code, never a certain one. Only the code assigned to the company counts, and it can be corrected until the switch.
To find the company itself from its name, use the company search; to understand the identifier that serves as the key, see SIREN and SIRET: what is the difference?.
What it means for a CRM
The NAF code is used for many things in a customer file, and each use breaks differently:
- Segmentation: a "hairdressing" list built on
96.02Awill be empty after the switch, with no error message. - Scoring: if a score gives points to some sectors, the rules must know the new codes, otherwise customers lose their points at once.
- Filters and drop-down lists: CRM value lists hold the old labels. Plan to replace them, not just add to them.
- Exports and dashboards: year-on-year comparisons will mix two classifications if nothing is done.
- Integrations: invoicing, collection or credit insurance software that receives the NAF code must accept both versions during the transition.
Example: a software vendor for hair salons has customers segmented on 96.02A. On 1 January 2027 new customers arrive with 96.21G and the old ones are updated by the import: without a rule, the sales team sees its list melt away without knowing why.
Elsewhere in the EU the same move to NACE Rev. 2.1 has already happened or is under way. Belgium (NACE-BEL 2025) has applied it since 1 January 2025, in the Netherlands the Chamber of Commerce moved the register to SBI 2025 in September 2025, and in Germany the WZ 2025 is being introduced in stages. If your file covers several countries, expect different dates and different national codes.
How to prepare your file
- Add a column for the NAF 2025 code next to the old one, with the classification stated. Do not replace anything before the switch.
- Fill it in now with the future code when the company knows it, or a probable code from the official table, marked as such.
- Rewrite your segmentation and scoring rules on a stable level: the division (two digits) changes less often than the full code, but check it as well.
- Keep the history: keep the old code to compare 2026 and 2027.
- Warn the integrations that consume the NAF code.
Establishments count as much as head offices: a file kept at SIRET level must be updated row by row.
With Jsonpage
The customer-file diagnosis analyses your file (duplicates, invalid identifiers, closed companies) and produces a report. The report includes a "NAF code 2027" column that gives, for each company, the code that will apply from 1 January 2027: you see at a glance which rows are affected before the switch.
To explore the companies of a sector, the Activities page also lets you browse companies by activity.
Frequently asked questions
When does the NAF code change?+
On 1 January 2027. The NAF 2025 then replaces NAF rev. 2, and French companies and their establishments receive a new APE code.
How do I find my future NAF code?+
Enter your SIREN on the official company register portal: the site shows your "code APE 2025" and lets you request a correction.
Will every NAF code change?+
According to Service-Public, all companies and establishments will have their APE code modified. The scale varies: some codes are only renamed, others merged or split.
Can I convert my file with the official table?+
Yes, to get a probable code. When an old code splits into several new ones, only the code assigned to the company counts.
Should I replace the old codes in the CRM?+
Not before the switch: add a column for the new code and keep the old one to compare periods.
