The number format
The organisation number has 9 digits, often written in groups of three: 923 609 016. The last digit is a check digit computed with modulo 11 on the first eight: a wrong or swapped digit almost always gives an invalid number.
GET /v2/companies/NO-923609016 returns the record with its status. The Discovery plan (free) includes this route. See Pricing. The link with Norwegian VAT
A VAT-registered business has a VAT number of the form NO, the organisation number, then MVA: NO923609016MVA. The suffix MVA stands for the Norwegian value added tax. Not every organisation number is VAT-registered: an association can have a number without an MVA number. For other VAT formats, see French VAT number: format and how to check it.
How to check it
Two levels of checking:
- The format: 9 digits and a correct modulo-11 check digit. It catches typing mistakes.
- Existence and status: only looking up the company says whether it exists and is active.
The forms 923 609 016, NO923609016 and NO923609016MVA are recognised.
With Jsonpage
The global identifier of a Norwegian company is NO- followed by the 9 digits: NO-923609016. Establishments are the Norwegian sub-units:
curl "https://api.jsonpage.com/v2/companies/NO-923609016?include=address,vat,signals" \
-H "X-API-Key: $JSONPAGE_API_KEY"
The record gives the name, status, organisation form and activity, whose label is in Norwegian. For an entity that left the register, the closing date stays empty.
